IN CHARACTER

Character Name: Magnus Bane
Canon: Shadowhunters (TV)
Canon Point: 01x12: Shortly after the finale in Magic, Moles, and Malec.

In-Game Tattoo Placement: On the back of his right heel.
Current Health/Status: Physically fine, no issues from canon taking him into the game beyond mourning an old friend and some emotional backlash from the events of Alec's botched wedding ceremony.
Age: Not outwardly stated with any truth. Several centuries old. Appears to be in his late teens, early twenties.
Species: Warlock / Downworlder - Half-Demon, Half-Mundane to get technical.

Content Warnings: Parental negligence, suicide, isolation, homophobia, race wars as it pertains to syfy creatures, and all there-in.

History: "I was alive when the Dead Sea was just a lake that was feeling a little poorly."

Personality:
With a flair for the dramatic and a penchant for satire it's impossible to miss Magnus Bane in a room. His love of decadence and the finer things in life is something comprised of his time spent on earth and the distance he's felt among other people. It's all too easy to surround himself with too many bodies and get lost in the crowd, but actual self-expression is more difficult.

Magnus, a downworlder and half-demon had to quite literally create his own future himself. His history is one that is rooted in sadness and express disfavor for the different. After several hundred years to cope, he used that same tragic backstory to bolster himself and stand proud among the rest of his peers as an ally to things that don't necessarily fit what most might deem normal. His enthusiasm is often linked directly to self-gain, but once dedicated it's impossible to shake his loyalty. Ever the smooth operator, with no real qualms with time he's learned to be patient in his endeavors and has become an esteemed party to Downworld secrets and operations. Some would say that he's developed a knack for being in the right place at the right time but with age comes wisdom and most of his choices do reflect that. Magnus himself is most often poised and paying attention, his age plays into his capabilities as well and keeps him ahead of the curve when things take off too quickly for the Shadowhunters and their friends.

Self-described as a "freewheeling bisexual," freewheeling can also describe his handling of friendships and relationships in general that don't relate to love. While he had up until Alec hardwired himself to not feel for anyone, in an effort to not have any clear weaknesses that could be used against him, he had always taken on the rejects and misfits of their little realm in an attempt to ensure their survival. He's generous and empathetic and goes above and beyond to understand and align himself with those that need his help. Those few that he does take under his wing don't get the bare minimum of his efforts, and Magnus will consider himself responsible for both their misdoings and misfortune.

Out-spoken but dutifully so, Magnus doesn't filter his opinions so much as make them carefully known. It's very difficult to spark outrage in him but a little venom in his tone is common and to be expected especially when it comes to matters he doesn't agree with, like the Conclave and its many accords. Willful and stubborn his own opinions are resolute and unwavering even at the worst of times.

His own alliance with their orders was borne from both guilt and aspiration - what he'd done to Clary while typically wouldn't bother him, was a factor in his agreement and Alec and his immediate interest followed suit. Wealth and money being non-issues made the decision easy, although with most Magnus does charge quite a hefty price: he's lived far too long to do everything out of sympathy and charity. Seen too much go terribly wrong, and has been witness to too many misdeeds.

At his core, Magnus is a protector and a guiding influence and has used his own experiences as a driving force to protect other downworlders from similar such circumstances. The beginning of his life had been spent completely alone and that sort of loneliness is something he has never been able to come to terms with. That same fear of loneliness is an "Achilles heel," of his when it comes to the balance of his power and capability especially in contrast to the lengths he'll go to for the ones he loves, often at great expense to himself.

As a direct result, Magnus continually brings people into his stead and has a great propensity for throwing parties and keeping bodies around him at all times. While he does delight in having some alone time, it plays towards reflection more than anything else and the necessity to clear his mind.

Magnus can be arrogant, despite his empathetic nature, and considers himself among the greatest warlocks of their time and while he isn't wrong his own hubris has and continues to impede him from time to time. These conditions of his more human side have never created such a strong influence that he hasn't been able to break past them to deal with the issue at hand but his strength of personality can be a lot to take in and has created conflict within his work in the past.

A fan of the finer things in life, Magnus is nothing if not a creature of habit. He has expensive tastes and parades his fashion prowess and his confidence around in an effort to seem inscrutable. At his core, while witty and perceptive, he struggles like anyone else with guilt and vulnerability and masks it with the distraction of flair and comedic timing.

He's had nothing but time to form both his good and bad coping mechanisms and given his history those that lean toward insecurity tend to borderline into less than savory. Magnus has never been a stranger to creature comforts either and has become a collector in an attempt to both bolster his own ego and keep track of time. While he keeps a very indirect sort of approach to people he doesn't know and exudes a certain intensity to strangers, he's really no different emotionally than anyone else and plays all of that very close to the chest.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
Immortality: As a warlock, Magnus has been granted immortality. Physically, Magnus does not age and has maintained the appearance of a young man for centuries. As a direct result of his being part demon, Magnus has cat-eyes which he uses a glamour to keep hidden.

His immortality doesn't make him impenetrable or impossible to kill, he is part human and the human half of him will be even more prevalent within the town of Deerington. He can die, it's more of a possibility than it ever has been before. The inaccuracies with his magic will also make this distinguishable for him and he will have to start living with painful recognition of his own mortality.

Magic: Magnus has access to magical powers that often manifest themselves as flames or smoky sparks at his fingertips. Magnus is capable of casting spells, performing summoning rituals, healing, and memory magic. His magic often appears blue but also appears in different colors, depending on the type of magic and intent with which he is using it.

As a high warlock and a major player in the game for some several hundred thousand years, his magic is exemplary and he is among the most esteemed warlocks on the Shadowhunter's database.

For the purposes of life in Deerington, obviously his magical ability to create portals doesn't move past the city limits and any extensive protection magic and barrier magic will seriously deplete his energy and cause a residual magic sickness that he can do nothing but sweat out. Healing magic is more comparable but limits his ability source drastically causing an irregularity in his ability to cast spells correctly or at all.
